Ingredients
  • 1 1/4 cup Rice
  • 1 1/4 cup Mix Dal (1 tbsp each of toor daal, chana dal, masoor dal, moong dhuli, moong chilka, moong sabut, urad dhuli, urad chilka,
  • 2 tbsp Pure ghee
  • 2 Whole red chili
  • 2 Green chili
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 cup Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Salt (or as per taste)
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Pinch of Heeng (asafoetida)
  • 1 tsp Red Chili powder
  • 2 cup Water (adjust according to the required consistency)
Instructions
  1. Wash rice, and mix dals thoroughly and soak them separately for 20 minutes.
  2. Place a cooker on gas and add ghee, whole red chili, heeng, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and saute for 1 minute.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and saute for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Now add soaked rice, stir gently. Add soaked mix dals, give it a gentle stir, add water as per the required consistency and adjust salt. Close the cooker with the lid and cook for 1 whistle.
  5. Serve the khichdi in a serving dish, pour some pure ghee, and serve hot with raita, papad, and chutney.
