Ingredients
    For Dal
  • 1 Cup Toor Dal
  • 3 cup Water
  • Pinch of Heeng (Asofetida)
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • For Dhokli/Dumplings
  • 2 cup Wheat Flour
  • Water
  • For Tadka
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Pinch of Heeng
  • tsp Chopped Garlic
  • 2 Whole Red Chilies
  • 1 tbsp Pure Ghee
Instructions
    Method for cooking Dal
  1. Rinse and Wash the dal thoroughly. Try to use unpolished dal.
  2. Soak the dal for 30 minutes.
  3. Heat pressure cooker. Put dal in the cooker. Add salt, turmeric, and heeng. Cook for 4 whistles or till the dal is cooked properly. Keep aside.
  4. Method for preparing dhoklis / dumplings
  5. Take a big vessel, add flour and Knead the flour by slowly adding water. The dough should be soft as you knead for chapatis. Cover it and keep aside for 10 minutes. You can add ajwain and turmeric also but that is optional.
  6. Make small balls from the dough and roll it to make thin chapati.
  7. Now cut the chapati with any round cutter to take out 4-5 round small chapatis.
  8. Then bring the sides together as shown in the image to make dhokli's. Prepare the rest of the dhoklis in the same way.
  9. Add the dhokli's in the dal and cook for 10 minutes. Check with the knife that the dhoklis are soft and tender.
  10. Method for tadka/tempering
  11. Heat tadka pan, and add ghee. Once the ghee is hot, add cumin seeds, heeng, garlic, and red chilies. Saute for 1-2 minutes and pour it over the Dal Optional: You can add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  12. For serving
  13. In a bowl pour the dal and dhoklis and garnish with coriander and serve hot. As per the taste you can serve chutney/ bharta alongside.
