Soya Chaap

It is basically a mixture of soya beans, soya granules, and all-purpose flour (maida), together rolled on the ice cream stick.

Soak beans overnight or for 8-9 hours and grind it to a fine paste and keep aside.

Grind Soya chunks into a fine paste, mix it with soya bean paste, and all-purpose flour.

Soya chaap is a dish originating from South Asia where it remains popular in India and Pakistan.

It is traditionally rolled over a ice-cream stick and then cooked in various dishes.

Today’s Recipe – Soya Chaap Masala

Today I am going to cook soya chaap masala that that has soya sticks, tomato and milk as main ingredients.

I am preparing this dish from SDS masala, cos I think that this masala is perfect for this dish.

Sticks are shallow fried in a pan and added to curry and cooked for 10 minutes.

Best accompaniments are rumali roti, naan and jeera rice.

  • Heat a pan, and shallow fry all the sticks in 1 tbsp oil on medium to low flame, till it acquires light brown color, it can take up to 6-8 minutes to acquire that color.
  • Prepare a paste of 2 onions, 2 tomatoes, 1 green chili, and 10-15 gms ginger by grinding it into a mixer.
  • Heat a wok, add 2 tbsp of oil and saute this paste for about 5-6 minutes or till it leaves oil from its sides.
  • Add 20 gms soya chaap masala and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  • Now add 150 ml of milk and mix it properly.
  • Add 250 gms of soya chaap and mix it well.
  • Now add 150 ml of water and mix all the ingredients properly and cook for 10 minutes on a slow flame.
  • After 10 minutes just check the consistency (it should not be very thick nor too watery), and adjust the salt (if required).
  • Garnish it with fresh green chopped leaves and enjoy delicious soya chaap with roomali roti/naan or rice.
