Chicken curry History
Chicken curry is the most sought after dish for non-veg lovers. This is the most delicious dish among all the chicken dishes.
It originates from Indian subcontinent. It is very common is Southeast Asia and Great Britain. Caribbean also love chicken curry.
The dish comprises of chicken pieces, gravy(curry) and some Indian spices like garam masala, pepper, turmeric, chili, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, cloves and other spices.
Indian chicken comprises cooking with whole spices and mostly people use mustard oil as a cooking medium, when cooked in mustard oil/pure ghee, its tastes best.
It’s curry has different methods of preparation. Some use tomato-onion while preparing curry, some people use cashew-almond curry as a base while many people include yoghurt in preparing curry.
Utensils
People use variety of utensils to cook chicken. The most commonly used utensil in Indian kitchen is pressure cooker. Chefs in hotels, use a large pan to cook chicken that is known as ‘degchi.‘
In rural areas, villagers use pots made from earthen materials to cook chicken curry. Chicken in these pots are really very delicious as they involve slow cooking on fire and contains earthy flavors.
Cooking style
The ingredients includes few spices to whole range of spices. It ranges from easy level to medium level and anyone from bachelor’s/beginners to professional to housewives can cook this delicious dish.
Normally it takes thirty minutes to forty five minutes to cook this dish and this dish can be served with rice/pulav, chapati, naan or paratha.
We use small pieces (curry cut) to cook this dish and we don’t use whole chicken in this preparation. Since these are small in size so they cooks very easily.

- 1. Take a pan and add water, bring it to boil. Add salt, turmeric powder, butter milk and chicken pieces to it. Cook it for 15 minutes.
- 2. Heat another pan/cooker, add oil(mustard oil) and heat it till it starts giving burning aroma.
- 3. Add chopped onion and little bit of salt and fry till it turns down to golden brown color.
- 4. Then add ginger-garlic paste, tomato puree, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and sauté it for few minutes. Then add cashew powder and cook it for 2-3 minutes.
- 5. Now add boiled chicken pieces along with the water and simmer it for 10-12 minutes.
- 6. Finally, garnish it with crushed pepper and coriander leaves and your yummy chicken is ready to eat. You can eat with Rice/chapati/paratha as per your taste.
